'Stress test' results for European nuclear plants

Safety standards at nuclear power plants across Europe are generally good but further improvements in almost all plants are recommended, according to last week's European Commission communication on results of 'stress tests' called for by the European Council after the Fukushima accident in March 2011. The tests looked at flood and earthquake scenarios, and found that international best practice is not applied in all member states.
